As we've come to expect with this years time trials wind and rain was forecast for Monday evenings Track 5K. Surprisingly, the rain held off for the most part leaving riders having to contend with a windy home straight. Pete Escritt set the evening off to a flying start, clocking a very rapid 7:04 (exactly the same time as he recorded in his previous two attempts at this distance!). On at the same time was Adam Lewis leading the race for fastest youth rider, setting 7:42 as the time to beat. Tina Clarke took an early lead in the Ladies competition with a time of 9:51, quickly challenged by Adele Handley who was just four seconds slower before Jo Latham moved into the lead with 9:09. Josh Burke managed to squeeze in just under 8 minutes, setting himself up as fastest Junior with a time of 7:59. It was youth rider Jordan Bason that looked like making the first serious challenge to Pete Escritt's time, flying around the track and moving into the lead with a time of 7:02. Father and son pairing of Carl and Ben Hardwick saw Carl coming out with the faster time, however Ben's performance was enough to break through the 10 minute barrier and give him the handicap win for the night as the most improved rider. The last pair of riders off were both trying to upset the leader board, with Lauren Creamer challenging for both fastest Junior and fastest Lady and Paul Rogers looking for the overall win. Lauren was 4 seconds short of beating Josh Burke's time for fastest Junior but 8:04 was good enough to give her a convincing win in the Ladies competition. Paul Rogers did his best to Challenge Jordan but in the end he had to settle for third with a time of 7:11.
Thanks to Craig and Ron Ansell, Pete Hartill, Robin Kyte and Gary Burke for all their hard work making the event happen. The last 5K of the year (and last race in the TT league) is on Saturday 15th August.
